Nikhil Shah DO, MPH, also known as Nik Shah, is an accomplished American entrepreneur, educator, urologist, robotic surgeon, and private equity professional. He is known for his significant contributions to minimally invasive surgery, genitourinary oncology, medical device innovation, and healthcare investment.[1] Dr. Shah serves as the CEO and Co-Founder of Nephrodite, Inc., a company focused on developing advanced medical devices, and is the Managing Partner of Cohere Capital, a Boston-based private equity firm specializing in growth companies.[2]
Education and Training
Dr. Shah's educational journey began at the University of Michigan, where he completed his undergraduate studies. He then pursued medical education at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. His surgical training was undertaken at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, specializing in general surgery, followed by subspecialty training in robotics, laparoscopy, and urological oncology at the Vattikuti Urology Institute, Henry Ford Health Systems. During his residency, Dr. Shah completed a Urologist-Scientist Research Fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, funded by the National Institutes of Health, and earned a Master’s degree in Health Management & Policy from the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health and the Ross School of Business.[3][4]

In the field of minimally invasive and robotic surgery, Dr. Shah has performed thousands of procedures, focusing on prostatectomy, nephrectomy, and upper tract reconstruction. His entrepreneurial venture, Nephrodite, Inc., emphasizes his dedication to healthcare innovation through the development of implantable continuous functioning dialysis devices.[5]
Dr. Shah's commitment to advancing surgical education is evident in his role as President and Co-Founder of Global Medical & Surgical Robotics (GMSR), where he leads efforts to train surgeons in minimally invasive and digital surgery techniques globally.[6]
In the realm of private equity, Dr. Shah is the Managing Partner at Cohere Capital, where he leverages his extensive experience to guide growth companies, particularly those in the business services and technology sectors. His strategic vision and leadership have been pivotal in driving the success of numerous portfolio companies.[7]
On March 17, 2024 Nik was named CEO of the private company Nikshahr®.
